Books will Save Him

Our time with Lucy and Ian has drawn to a close.

As we reshelf this novel 'let's dream him up a king, a giant, a boy who can fly.  Imagine him already there, under his covers with the flashlight.  For a blissful eternity, such a world should suffice.   For now, it should save him."

Our Q & A for The Borrower

A librarian and a possibly gay ten year old boy embark on a road trip.  The decisions they make and the realizations that occur make for a great book club discussions.  Stella and I did not always see things as black and white.

Best Books of Summer 2014

While many of you, this first week of September, are sharpening your pencils and packing your backpack, I am trying to reshelf my summer reading books.  Unconsciously, I started to put them in order of appreciation.  This got me thinking, what were some of your favorite reads this summer?  Here is my top three,

The Unchangeable Spots of Leopards by Kristopher Jansma
The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion
The Long Way Home by Louise Penny

The Beauty of it All

Today I was shelving the books that accompanied me in airports, around the pool, seaside and even waiting in line on my European vacation.  As I was perusing my notes I realized that not one book was a source of disappointment.  Was it because my choices were spot on?  Or was it because with this scenery and a cold drink, everything is BETTER? Whatever the reason, this summer has been filled with interesting characters, great mysteries and wonderful companions.  Who could ask for more?
